There was so much fun learning going on today, the rainy weather didn't slow us down at all! Everyone came with rain jackets, so even though we missed the monsoon in the morning.....we were well prepared!

Our book today was Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni.  It's a book about a blue circle who is best friends with a little yellow circle.  When they hug, something really cool happens.....they become green!  We made a chart of all of our favorite colors, but the kids really wanted every color to be "picked", so I'm not sure our results were very accurate!

For art we mixed blue and yellow to make green.  We learned our lesson with the painting last time, so all the kiddos wore trash bag smocks AND the table was covered with brown paper!  Even though Susannah went home with blue streaks in her hair, it was much less messy than our last experience! We promise fun at The Speech Garden....not necessarily neat!!  We won't send this project home until it has time to dry in the classroom!

Ms. Anglea came today and it was a blast!  After our warm up, we took turns jumping over hurdles that she had set up.  Some needed little jumps, but some were higher, and needed bigger jumps. Then she taught us how to run a relay race!  It was so much fun cheering on our friends during the race.  The kiddos all did an amazing job waiting their turn and encouraging each other to do their best!  Ms. Angela had a trampoline that we all took turns jumping on while counting to 10.  Right before it was time to go, she brought out the favorite activity of the day.....barrel jumping!  Each kiddo climbed up on top of the barrel (about 3 feet tall) and stood up, and jumped up off!  Some needed a little more hand holding, but everyone jumped!  And the smiles on their faces.....priceless!  LOTS of pictures to come!

We did make it outside....but by then, all our jackets sat on the picnic table while we played!  Lots and lots of fun today!  At the end of each day, the kids all ask, "school tomorrow?".  I think that's a good indicator that they are having a great time learning!!  See you tomorrow!

Today started our week talking all about FRIENDS!  We read a book called Help! A Story of Friendship by Holly Keller.  In the book, Mouse got stuck in a hole and all his friends had to work together to find a way to get him out.  Even though Mouse was scared of his friend Snake, he was the one friend who was able to help him get out of the hole. We talked about all the ways that we can help our friends at school. 

During art time we made a wreath of our friends hands.  We have been working really hard to learn each other's names, and the kiddos are really catching on. Everyone had to call each other's name to receive a colored hand.  Then we glued them down in a circle.  It will be fun to practice our friends name's at home.

Ms. Michelle was back today with all kinds of new games for us to play.  She set up inside today because we all thought we might get rained on outside.  We even took our shoes off to get more sensory input through our feet!  We did lots of jumping, hopping, and wheelbarrow walking.  Ms. Michelle helped us blow things across the floor with straws.  She had a big bowl of rice with hidden shapes inside. We had to use tongs to find the shapes.  We LOVE all the cool things that Ms. Michelle brings for us!

We did get a little sprinkle while we were on the playground today. It wasn't enough to get wet, but all the kiddos (our Weekday friends included) ran around from teacher to teacher talking about the raindrops. The kids loved it!  We had to change the weather board from cloudy to rainy when we got back inside! 

Get some rest tonight.....Ms. Angela comes tomorrow!

Show and Tell

Reid brought in a toy tractor to tell about the Tractor Parade that he and his Grandfather were a part of for July 4th.  Gianni brought his favorite army man who can do all sorts of tricks!  What a fun day!

I can hardly believe how fast this week has flown by!  With all the fun new things we introduced on Tuesday and Wednesday, it was nice to have a "regular" day today!  The kiddos were so talkative and interactive today.  I wanted to record how noisy lunch was with everyone talking to each other! 

Today's book was The Daddy Book by Todd Parr.  Yesterday....Mommies.  Today.....Daddies.  We try to play fair!  This book was about how daddies do different things to help us.  Some daddies read to us, some daddies sing to us, and some daddies play with us.  Don't take this personal Mommies, but the kiddos REALLY liked the daddy book! 

Outside on the playground it was wonderful to see the kids playing with each other.  They took turns pushing each other on the swing and built sandcastles together.  They were running and playing ball with our friends from the Weekday School.  It was neat to see how comfortable they all are in only 2 weeks time!

For art today, we made Family Trees!  Each branch has a different person's name on it.  We talked about how all the people in our families are important and special.  The kids loved putting on the green fingerprint leaves. Getting messy is always the best part!!

We ended this wonderful Thursday with a special music time.  The kids each picked an instrument to play from the bucket.  We had recorders, drums, bells, whistles, and tambourines!  I am sure that the church office workers wondered where all the BEAUTIFUL music was coming from!  It was loud, but it was so much fun!  The kids didn't even mind when we stopped and traded instruments with our friends.  What a fun way to end the last day of school for the week!  Have a great weekend!  We'll see you....and your kiddos.....next week!
